Good Soil

Good Soil

In my last blog from July 25, 2025, I talked about “Unlocking Your Potential” using the “SMART Goal” method. If you haven’t checked it out yet, now would be a great time! You can find that blog on the website: evolvecoaching.life

In that blog, I broke down the acronym for “SMART.” The breakdown is as follows:

S = Specific M = Measurable A = Achievable R = Relevant T = Time-Bound

Today, I want to focus on one part of that acronym, the “S.”

And no, I’m not talking about the “S” for Superwoman or Superman that you might be wearing on your chest. I’m talking about the specific goals you have for yourself and your family.

First, let’s define specific.

Google defines specific as “clearly defined or identified.”

So, the question to you is this:

Have you clearly identified the goals you desire to achieve?

Or have you allowed what others say to become your goals? Have you allowed their specific goals to take root in your thoughts?

See, some of us have allowed others to plant their goals in our lives, and now we’re trying to figure out how to make those goals grow in our soil. You might be wondering why you haven’t left the “garden center.”

That garden center has you wandering around, looking for a certain plant, asking yourself, “How am I going to achieve this specific goal I’ve allowed someone else to plant in my garden?”

But the truth is this: The soil God gave you is for you.

If we continue to nurture goals that someone else has planted in our spirit, we end up tending someone else’s garden instead of our own. We water their goals, give them light, and plan where they should grow, while neglecting what God planted in us.

Matthew 13:23 (New Living Translation) reminds us:

“The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”

We must be quiet and attentive enough to hear clearly the specific goals God has planted in us.

And don’t forget what Habakkuk 2:2 (KJV) says:

“Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.”

It doesn’t say to let Tom, Michelle, Sallie, or Harry write or plant the vision for you. You are to write the vision because God gave it to you, not to the one who has you stuck wandering around the garden center.

So, how can you be specific in achieving your goals?

First, as your Evolve Circle Changer Coach, we’ll work together to identify your specific goals. That starts by pulling out those old notes or journals, whether you wrote them years ago or just yesterday. Take a look. You may be surprised at what you’ve already written and have an A-ha! moment when you realize your specific goals have been with you all along.

Working with me as your Evolve Circle Changer Coach, we’ll take those goals and write them out, then map them out. Mapping is one of the techniques I use in coaching, and you’ll be amazed at how much clarity it brings to your goals—and how attainable they truly are.

Once we’ve written and mapped out your goals, we’ll assign a time frame. Then it’s time to get to work, not back to the garden center!

So, which will you choose?

Gardening in soil filled with pesticides, tainted by others’ expectations?

Or cultivating the good soil that God has planted in you?

Empowering you to evolve.
