I still remember the sense of
relief I felt when I finally boarded my flight for a long-awaited golf vacation. After months of planning, the moment was finally here! I’m one of those fortunate souls who can fall asleep the moment I settle into my seat. About half an hour into the flight, I woke up thinking, "Wow, this is one of the smoothest flights I've ever experienced." But when I glanced out the window, expecting to see clouds or blue skies, I was shocked to see the same runway, we hadn’t left. We were still stuck on the tarmac! I decided to ask the flight attendant if everything was alright. I’ll never forget her response: "Yes, sir, everything is fine here. The weather is perfect. But our first layover is experiencing a nasty storm. The captain has decided to wait it out." Here’s the crazy part, I remember thinking, “Can’t the pilot just fly over the storm? I don’t want to be late for my tee time.” The pilot was concerned about saving lives and I was thinking about golf. That got me thinking about how impatient we can be. In a world that thrives on speed and instant gratification, waiting often feels like a burden or even a test of our faith. Yet, as Christians, we learn that some of life’s most significant moments come during these delays. They can strengthen our faith and prepare us for what lies ahead. Here are 6 areas that we should consider when facing “Necessary Delays”:
· Understanding Delays · Cultivating Patience · Finding Peace in the Waiting · Growing Through Reflections · The Beauty of God’s Timing · Trusting the Journey
Understanding Delays Delays can feel like interruptions, but maybe they’re part of a bigger plan. The Book of Hebrews is full of accounts of people who faced long waits but came out stronger. I’m reminded of Abraham and Sarah, who waited 25 years to receive the child they were promised. Their long wait wasn’t a denial; it was preparation for a miracle that would change humanity. Cultivating Patience If we’re honest, patience isn’t always celebrated. Yet, waiting can teach us so much about trusting in God’s timing. Each delay can be a chance to deepen our relationship with Him. During these moments, prayer takes on new importance. It encourages us to seek guidance, examine our desires, and align our hearts with His. Finding Peace in the Waiting 2 / 2Delays can stir up anxiety and frustration, but the Bible reminds us to find peace amid the wait. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to present our worries to God and assures us that His peace will guard our hearts and minds. Embracing this peace can help us shift our perspective, viewing delays as stepping stones in God’s plan rather than obstacles. Growth Through Reflection For me, I know when I have faced delays, it often offered the opportunity to reflect on my goals and motivations. It’s a time to consider whether I was pursuing God’s purpose for my life or merely my own ambitions. This self-examination can lead to personal growth and clearer direction. The Beauty of God’s Timing God’s timing is always perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own. Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, "For everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." Embracing necessary delays means trusting that God knows what we need and when we need it. Sometimes, the wait can bring more blessings than we ever imagined. Trusting the Journey As we navigate the delays in our lives, let’s remember that these moments can be transformative. They encourage us to deepen our faith, reassess our priorities, and practice patience. Instead of viewing delays as setbacks, let’s see them as opportunities to draw closer to God and trust His perfect timing. So, the next time you find yourself in a season of waiting, remember it's not just a pause; it might be a divine preparation for what’s ahead. Who knows? God may just be holding off on your purpose to let the storms of life pass by. Coach Rich Circle Changer
