Your Style Will EVOLVE
What your style communicates about you
I grew up in a household where you did not step outside looking any kind of way. You could be broke, but you were not going to look broke. My Aunt Sharon would do a visual scan like TSA before TSA existed. If your nail polish was chipped, your elbows were ashy, or your hair looked like life had wrestled you down… baby, she would set you straight and read you like yesterday’s newspaper. And if she was extra passionate that day, she might follow it up with a little knock knock on the forehead. A forehead tap of conviction and deliverance at the same time.
I also grew up watching my older cousins who had access to the trendy fashion and latest styles. They had all the cool pieces while I was over there remixing whatever my grandma was able to buy. I did not own my first pair of Nikes until eighth grade and let me tell you, they were not even the current release. They were giving previous season with confidence. But what I lacked in labels I made up for in creativity. I learned to build a look, not buy one.
That early lesson stuck with me. Style speaks before you ever open your mouth. It announces your energy, your confidence, your discipline, and sometimes your level of self care. It can open doors or close them. It can draw the right attention or the wrong attention. It can frame how people experience you before they ever get to know your heart or your character.
And here is the truth I coach women on every day: you do not have to look like what you have been through. You get to choose what you are communicating to the world.
Your life is evolving, so your style should evolve with you. Not to impress others, not to follow every trend, but to come into agreement with who you are becoming.
Style Tips For An Evolving Season
A glow up is not just inner work. It often has an outer reflection too. Here are a few practical tips you can start with:
1. Undergarments matter
The right foundation pieces change everything. A beautiful outfit with the wrong undergarments turns into a distraction. Invest in the basics.
2. Escape the black and grey trap
Neutral is fine, but color communicates energy. Let your wardrobe say you are alive. Switch it up and let your joy show.
3. Dup it, do not debt it
If you love an expensive piece, look for a quality dupe. You can be stylish without paying luxury rent prices for one outfit.
4. Dress for your body type
Not who you were or who you are becoming. Dress the body you have right now with love and intention.
5. Forget the number on the tag
I size up or down depending on how I want something to drape. I am not loyal to a number, I am loyal to a flattering fit.
Why Style Is Part of Your Evolution
When you begin to show up dressed like the healed, confident, aligned version of yourself, you start becoming her more quickly. Style can serve as a form of mental rehearsal. Your reflection begins to mirror the transformation happening on the inside and your sense of self naturally rises to meet that vision.
When you evolve your style, you are not being vain. You are being intentional. You are declaring through your appearance that you are worthy of care and presentation. You are telling your future that you are getting ready for it.
Your life is evolving. Let your wardrobe testify to the journey.
